So a lot of people know that a Home Insurance policy carries many different policy excess’ in the event of a claim unlike Car Insurance. A Home policy will have a standard policy excess and then will carry different excess’ for the like of Subsidence, Escape of Oil/Water, Specified All Risks. It is important to know policy excess’ as in the event of a claim it will be the part of the claim that you are liable for.
Accidental Damage
So on a Home policy you can add Accidental Damage cover as an optional extra. This can be an option for both Buildings and Contents. What it could cover you for on Contents is the likes of spilling a big tub of paint on your couch and ruining it or on the Buildings it could cover the likes of putting your foot through the ceiling whilst in your attic.
Specified and Unspecified All Risks
Some people don’t know that you can specify items on your home insurance to cover the in the event of loss or damage. You can specify high value items, sports equipment, musical instruments, and jewellery etc. If they are lost or damaged then you can claim for the item from your home insurance. You can also get unspecified cover if there is not a particular item you wish to cover and this works in the same way.
Christmas and Wedding Times
It is not always known but in time periods around weddings and Christmas your home insurance policy will automatically cover your contents sum insured for an extra 10% due to extra items being within the home.
