We are pleased to feature Emma Murphy in this week’s Employee Spotlight. Emma is part of our Commercial team in Wexford and has developed a strong career in the insurance sector throughout the years. In the spotlight, Emma shares her journey into the insurance field and discusses a collaborative effort that really helped her team.

What are you most proud of in your career so far?

I have found the past two years very exciting, especially the integration into Gallagher. This has created so many opportunities for colleagues, but I suppose for me, it means that I now manage a larger group of clients with the team around me. It’s a pleasure to work with clients that are so focused on business growth and I’m proud to be their insurance partner.

How did you get started in the industry?

I started in the insurance industry in the Life and Pensions department, assisting clients with Pensions, Life Insurance, Mortgages and Loans. After some time, I made the move to General Insurance, specifically Commercial Insurance and I really enjoy it. It can be quite challenging at times but there are also moments that give me a great sense of achievement.

How do you ensure that our customers receive the best service?

I believe that it’s important to be efficient and work together with a strong team that focuses on delivering a personal customer experience. I always remind myself that people love to do business with people. I do my best to understand the client, their business and most importantly, the risks associated.

How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance in a demanding professional environment?

It’s always interesting to hear about how people manage the work-life balance so I will take any tips people may have! I’ve two small kids so they quickly take me out of work-mode, and I love it. I love my weekly Pilates class and I also really enjoy spending time with my family.

Discuss a recent collaboration that enhanced the team’s success

A few months back I attended an away day with our team, I felt it made a huge difference to how we interacted and our communication. Our away day consisted of a sound bath, a walk and talk in the woods and a tasty lunch. We have worked together for a very long time, so we know each other well, but it was so nice to relax and reset together as a team. It was so nice to have conversations outside the office environment.
